Cleaner sites, less waste and a business that gives back to the community it grew up in. Here's how PHARO cleans responsibly.
Cleaning uses a lot of water, chemicals, paper and plastic. PHARO Asset Services has been cleaning Sydney sites since 1985, and we've changed how we work to use less of all four, without lowering the standard of the clean.
That means microfibre instead of paper towels, refillable bottles instead of single-use plastic, recycled paper where disposables are needed, and helping our clients reduce, reuse and recycle. It also means paying our cleaners properly and giving back to our community.
We use microfibre cloths instead of single-use paper towels, plus washable microfibre mop heads and pulse mops that use less water. They pick up more dust and grime, dry quickly and last for years.
Where a job still needs paper towels or other disposables, we supply products made from recycled materials rather than new wood.
Our cleaners refill their bottles from a bulk filling station instead of buying new ones for every site, cutting plastic waste and cost.
Sustainability isn't only environmental. It's also about how we treat the people who do the work.
We favour products and methods that are safer for people and the environment, and use less water and fewer chemicals on every clean.
We help clients follow the waste hierarchy: reduce what's used, reuse where possible and recycle the rest, with bins and recycling sorted properly on site.
Our cleaners are paid in line with the cleaning award, and we care about wellbeing, local employment and inclusion as much as clean floors.
Adam Thomas, Managing Director
Sustainability starts with leadership, so it's driven from the top of the business.
A documented program sets clear objectives and keeps everyone accountable.
Every cleaner and supplier has a part to play.
We track how much water, product and paper we use.
Regular checks make sure we don't slip backwards.
Realistic targets that push us to keep reducing waste.
Every time a new client joins PHARO, we adopt a tree through Adopt a Tree.
Each year we donate a share of our profits to Bear Cottage, the children's hospice in Manly.
We've partnered with Business with a Heart to sponsor teddy bears for children who need comfort.
